Please have your questions ready for
Questions and Answer Sessions
which follow each presentation

From best selling authors, participants will learn the nuts and bolts of writing, plus how each author started writing, how they found a publisher and their tips for getting into print.

Authors will cover areas such as character, dialogue, planning, and creative flow as well as the basics of show and tell and avoiding clichés.

Each afternoon is dedicated to a more in-depth study of a specific aspect of creative writing, honing and developing your skills or kick starting that novel you’ve always had in the back of your mind.

We advise all participants to familiarise themselves with the author’s work before each course.

Day Format

Each INKwell Writers’ Workshop will run as follows, although individual speakers may choose to vary the format to suit their presentation.

09.00 Registration and Coffee – writing is a solitary profession so this is a chance to meet your fellow participants, find out about their work and make new contacts.
 09.30

Welcome introduction by Vanessa O’Loughlin and a talk through your Handout pack.
This exclusive Inkwell pack contains a series of tips sheets that supplement the facilitators presentations and highlight specific areas to help you improve your writing. The pack also contains a copy of ‘Writing Magazine’ or ‘Writers News’.

 10.00 Opening Speaker:

During the course of the day speakers will cover areas such as planning, creating a scene, show not tell, avoiding clichés, narration, character, and dialogue. Each facilitator will discuss their own route to publication, sharing details of their personal writing techniques, as well as giving tips on getting published!
11.15 Coffee break: Tea, Coffee and biscuits
 11.30 Second Speaker:

Every writer has a different approach to their writing day and the techniques they use to develop a story. Meeting and hearing from two authors gives new writers an opportunity to compare methods and find out what will work best for them. Participants also benefit from the publishing tips and experience of two authors! The second speaker will introduce the first writing exercise.
12.45 Lunch: An extensive, delicious buffet lunch catering for all palates, followed by tea and coffee
  2.00 Creative Writing Workshop:

Through the exercises set, participants will be guided through developing character, plot, and dialogue. Reading is entirely voluntary, but through class discussion and the facilitators critique, participants can see how differently a challenge is handled as well as seeing how to improve and develop their own approach.
3.00 Tea, Coffee and biscuits taken in room as seminar continues.
  4.30 Seminar ends
