Romancing the Web: Writing and Selling Romances to Online Markets
It has been estimated that over 55 million people read romances worldwide, and
with the emergence of electronic books this number just keeps growing. To fill the need for great new
material, e-publishers have thrown open their doors to romance writers of all countries and require manuscripts of
all lengths, types and levels of heat. If you’ve ever thought about writing a romance now is the time to take
advantage of the many exciting opportunities for electronic publication.
Writing a romance is much more than just plotting a love
story. This course will help writers explore the romance genre, and recognised romance subgenres, as well
as understand the specific requirements of romantic characters, plots and love scenes. We’ll also cover
how to write the best opening possible for your romantic fiction, and how to find the perfect online home for
your work. Each week will include an email lecture, Web reading
recommendations and activities to be submitted for tutor review. At
the end of this course participants who take advantage of all assignments will have written character sketches,
a plot plan, a love scene and the first chapter of their romance as well as a query letter and synopsis for
submitting their work.
