New Bonnier fiction imprint Twenty7 Books has acquired a Dublin-based crime series by Irish literary scout Vanessa Fox O’Loughlin.

Fox O’Loughlin is a literary scout and current chair of Irish PEN, as well as being the creator of popular writers’ resource www.writing.ie.

She will write the series under the pen name Sam Blake.

The three-book deal for UK and Commonwealth rights was agreed between publisher Joel Richardson and WME London’s Simon Trewin.

The first title in the trilogy is The Dressmaker, which introduces central character Cathy Connolly, a 20-something Dublin cop and kickboxing champion. The novel begins with a horrifying discovery after what seems like a routine break-in.

Richardson said: “Our aim at Twenty7 is to discover great debut authors, and so it is serendipitous to be working with an author who has done so much of that herself. The Dressmaker gripped me from the beginning and in Cathy Connolly, Vanessa has created a character that will stick in the mind for a long time.”

Fox O’Loughlin said of her books: “I want to take my readers under the radar and show them the seamy undercurrents that run through Dublin. I’m fascinated by what makes people tick, by what goes on behind closed doors, and what drives people to kill.”

Twenty7 will publish The Dressmaker in spring 2016.
