If you read it and like it please vote!

She says, “This is not a story for young children but older ones may find it educational. I’ve also won a journalism award – runner up for an article I wrote on teen drinking.”

Hugely well done – I know she’d like your support if you can LIKE her story! Excerpt below:

The Most Interesting Person At The Party

Miles had perfected the art of being the most interesting person at any party. He brought show-off wines to dinner parties, carried the latest smartphone with the latest apps to demonstrate, wore not loud, but distinctive clothes, such as hand-sewn silk ties and hand-stitched leather shoes, and knew a little about a lot of people and topics so he could interject a witty or wise comment into any discussion. This strategy had served him well, for he had observed soon after entering the world of business that a lot of deals and promotions were actually done over meals, golf rounds and corporate entertainment events…

Inkwell Writer Brigid O’Connor was in touch with great news, she says:

Hi Vanessa,
I entered a UK first chapter competition, Novelicious Undiscovered, a commercial women’s lit competition.
My piece ‘The Irish Poet’ has been shortlisted.
The twenty first chapters will be featured on the Novelicious site during May and mine is featured on 10th May.
There is a public vote and publishers decide the other prize winner.
If anyone wishes to vote for me, I would be delighted for any support. I am not sure if there are any other Irish writers on the list, I didn’t recognise any of the names.
The link is here:

It is dedicated to one of Ireland’s most accomplished story writers and theorists, sponsored by the Munster Literature Centre. If the winner comes to Cork to collect their prize, we will lavish them with hotel accommodation, meals, drinks and VIP access to the literary stars at the Cork International Short Story Festival (September 2012).

Anam Cara Writer’s and Artist’s Retreat www.anamcararetreat.com is again awarding a week-long residency to the first prize winner of the Seán Ó Faoláin Short Story Competition. Located just outside the colourful village of Eyeries on the Beara Peninsula in West Cork, Anam Cara is a tranquil spot structured to provide support and sanctuary for people working in the creative arts. It offers private and common working rooms as well as five acres of walking paths, thirty-four nooks and crannies, a river cascades and a river island, gardens, and a labyrinth meadow. Editoral consultation is also available. The prize is valued at €700. (The dates of the residency will be arranged between the writer themselves and Anam Cara, and can be scheduled before or after the week of the Cork International Short Story Festival. Otherwise, the week can be scheduled for another time of the year, at Anam Cara’s discretion.)
