New Writers Forum & Talent Spotting Site Launched

Blackstaff Press have launched a new writers community forum, SkyPen, with the goal of motivating writing across the island of Ireland (North, South, East and West) and to provide a central hub for groups of like minded people to create, discuss and enjoy books and literature.

You do not need to be a writer to use the forum but it is hoped that SkyPen will offer emerging writers the opportunity to be discovered online.

SkyPen is not a formal submissions forum for Blackstaff Press. If you would like more information on making a formal submission, Stuart Quate, founder of SkyPen has created a blog post with information on submitting work to a publisher and you can also find information on the Blackstaff Press website here.

It is Blackstaff’s vision that in the future SkyPen will grow to become a dedicated author development platform for writers on the island of Ireland providing professional support from the book trade with the aim of helping users become published authors. SkyPen will allow people to come together in a supportive environment and share work anonymously if they wish.  More importantly it is aimed at the people of Ireland and managed by an Irish Publisher.

Another aspect of SkyPen which makes it  different from other writers forums is it promotes physical writing groups.  For example if you are a member of a writing group in your local area you can contact SkyPen and they will create a dedicated writing group for you on the SkyPen site.  This can be a public group so that you can welcome new members or a private group so that only your members have access.  You can then use SkyPen to store and share writing between the members of your local group.

Blackstaff are running a writing competition through SkyPen for Creativity Month with a Kindle and a range of Blackstaff Press books up for grabs.  The competition is free to enter and with entries limited to between 500 and 1000 words people can enter as many times as they like.  Full details can be found by going to SkyPen.co.uk clicking on ‘Groups’ and then clicking into the ‘Competitions Group’.

The three winners will also have their work published on the main Blackstaff Press website.
