Online Workshops
The Art of Editing
Course Duration: 4 weeks
Start Date: On demand
Tutor(s): Sarah Franklin
Course Fee: €75
You’ve spent a long time on your book. Before you send it out there into the wide world, it vitally important that it’s error-free and the best possible reflection of your talent.
This four-week course will help you with the basics of editing, so that when your agent is reading your manuscript, you know those hoots of laughter are at your brilliant humour, not your grammar.
Course Content in Detail
In this course, we’ll cover:
- An introduction to editing - why it's done, difference between line(copy) editing & structural editing, why editing is a critical part of the drafting process.
- Structural editing: why this matters; how you can tell if it's making a difference; how to be your own editor.
- Line-editing: different styles (fiction and non-fiction have different rules; US/UK/Ireland have slightly different rules); what you're looking for
- Hanging it all together: when you know that you're done
Each module will contain an email lecture packed with practical advice, information and links to related online reading resources. Each module will also require the participant to complete a practical exercise which will be returned to the tutor for review following which individual feedback will be given to the participant. It is recommended that the four modules be completed within an eight-week period to gain maximum benefit.
